Axon Bower Biography
Axon Bower, also known as David Keenen, was born on the small island of Jersey in the English Channel, a British anomaly that stubbornly hugs the coastline of northern France. With Celtic blood from both parental sides (one Irish, one Scottish) it’s understandable that storytelling through song comes naturally to him.
Those who have experienced injury will know how powerful a time it can be, none more so than Keenan who, back in 2013, suffered a broken neck. It was during this recovery time that he honed his songwriting skills, turning the misadventure into his creative advantage. Thanks to the experience of waiting it out for his body to heal he acquired some valuable skills that he would apply to his process - commitment and patience.
With a natural draw to raw and thought-provoking singer/songwriters’ such as Jack White, Jamie T, Jeff Buckley, Mac De Marco and Bob Dylan, Bower held that inspiration close and busked his way around the world, wholly embracing a voyage of musical discovery. He developed a diverse and colorful sound, one as rich and colourful as his inner world.
From the hustle in the streets came many gig and recording opportunities from Europe to Tokyo, Texas to New Zealand, ever-growing with the musical friendships and experiences found on the road. Two unreleased tracks gained airtime on BBC Radio 1 back in 2016 at the start of David’s musical journey.
More recently David welcomed an invitation to a songwriting session in Warner Chapel HQ in LA, performed at the iconic Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville and is currently involved in a writing project for a forthcoming film project.
With the desire to continue this creative lifestyle back home in the Channel Islands, David went about setting up a local non for profit initiative: Songwriters’ Society (SWS), a platform that supports & showcases original music, poetry & art.
From hosting and filming events to workshops and releasing music on their new label, SWS aims to support and nurture the full spectrum of artists’ development as well as serving the community through putting on memorable shows. Keenan strongly believes that everyone involved in the cultural scene and creative industry will benefit through the resulting growth and connection. David Keenan is now proud to unleash the musical jewel that is, Axon Bower.
